Katharina Kohls is a doctoral student at the Group for Information Se­cu­ri­ty of Prof. Dr. Pöpper and the Chair for Systems Security of Prof. Dr. Holz at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ruhr-Uni­ver­si­ty Bo­chum, Ger­ma­ny since September 2014. She received her Master's degree in the subject of applied computer science in 2014 at the Ruhr-University Bochum.


In general my research focuses on privacy enhancing technologies and in particular:

  • Circumvention of Internet censorship, e.g., through multimedia steganography
  • Digital forgetting in the Internet: revocation of user data
  • Leveraging the security of Tor, e.g., against traffic analysis attacks
